Ever wondered who owns craftsman tools? What about Milwaukee, Mac Tools or Skilaw? You may be surprised to find that only a few power tool companies have your favorite tools. Yes, most tool brands belong to the parent company, which also controls other power tool manufacturers and brands. We break it down for you... with diagrams!

We did not include every tool company in this picture. To be honest, we can't put them all on the page. However, we will do our best to include as many tool brand parent companies as possible below. It makes the most sense to start with the biggest ones.

Stanley Black & Decker (SBD) attracted attention when it acquired Craftsman Tools in 2017 after Sears closed 235 stores in 2015. However, the company owns many brands. TTS or Tooltechnic Systems, headquartered in Windlingen, Germany, owns Festool (electric and pneumatic tools), Tanos (not to be confused with the man who destroyed half of the universe), Narex, Sawstop and now Shape Tools. In 1916, J. Walter Becker apparently founded the Ideal Commutator Dresser Company in Chicago from his mother's kitchen. More than 100 years later, Ideal Industries provides services to technicians and workers around the world. They serve the electrical, construction, aerospace, and even automotive markets. Sunrise Global Marketing manufactures Greenworks and Greenworks Pro tools.

Positec started in 1994 as an OEM manufacturer. They now own the Rockwell and WORX brands.

Who made the power tools for port freight is still a mystery-probably because they may have changed suppliers in the past. Someone suggested LuTool, a company established in June 1999 to supply their power tools. LuTool is headquartered in Ningbo, China, and has a North American office in Ontario, Canada. LuTool is owned by Gemay (Ningbo Gemay Industrial Co., Ltd.), which is also headquartered in Ningbo, China.

Not to be outdone, others suggested Powerplus as the manufacturer behind the Drill Master, Warrior, Bauer and Hercules series of tools. Powerplus is a division of the European company Varo, headquartered in Belgium.

Hilti and Makita are just Hilti and Makita. Hilti does not have any subsidiaries or parent companies under it. On the other hand, Makita did acquire the Dolmar brand, consolidating its already impressive line of outdoor power equipment and tools. The market share enjoyed by these companies is impressive!

We can’t miss the popular private labels offered by large retailers and home improvement warehouses. Please note that many (if not all) of the following brands represent ODM or OEM solutions. This means that the tool is specified by the store but executed by another manufacturer. In other cases, the tool is "provided" to the retailer, and then mass-produced after accepting the buyer's order.

Although you might think you know the owners of all these power tool manufacturers, integration has changed the competitive environment. So far, Stanley Black & Decker has demonstrated the largest acquisition model. Companies such as TTI, Apex Tool Group, and ITW also like to increase their numbers.
